SUNVISION MAY 2012 INSIDE <6> WHAT’S BRIGHT NOW Sunwear revs into full gear this spring with fresh style and spirit. SPRING METAMORPHOSIS Spring signals transformation. It’s the ultimate green light to shed that heavy winter coat and replace it with a light, airy jacket. Break out the sandals collecting dust in the closet or that piercing yellow frame that didn’t seem quite so fitting against a drab backdrop of windy winter blues. Spring is the time for revival, bringing with it a shift in the way we think, the things we do and the way we dress and accessorize. Around this time last year, I was relatively new to the editorial team at 20/20 . Almost immediately after my arrival in January 2011, my desk was inundated with product samples from dozens of companies. My eyes were the first to see evolving and revolving trends being hoarded into the office in multi-sized packages. Some standout trends we noted come out full force in this month’s SunVision : sporty motifs, studded frame fronts, texturized frames, chromographic colors and elaborate filigree designs. Stay on top of these fashion trends and the latest technology, and use that knowledge to deliver a great frame to your customer. Don’t forget to offer them prescription sunwear. Use “SunStats” (p. 16) as a guide; it’s filled with statistics that help navigate relevant information in the right direction. Spring is the time to transition from fitting in to standing out. Venture outside your comfort zone. I don’t have a favorite brand or a particular frame style that I gravitate toward, and that’s okay with me. I like to experiment. As the amount of daylight hours increases and the temperature begins rising, it is the perfect season for exploring different styles. We can’t say it enough. Sunwear is the ULTIMATE accessory. But don’t let SunVision be tunnel vision. Hit the streets. Observe. Sunglasses are synonymous with blooming spring culture, and whether they’re worn traditionally, as a stylish headband or hanging from the collar of a shirt, you SEE it.
